Killdeer Plains Wildlife Area
Wyandot County · Zone A · 9,054 acres

Big managed marshes and grain fields that pull puddle ducks and geese moving down the state's interior. The region's marquee public waterfowl area — about an hour north.

Much of the waterfowl hunting runs through controlled hunts (typically Tue/Thu/Sat mornings) — check the current controlled-hunt schedule and permit rules before you go.

Big Island Wildlife Area
Marion County · Zone A · 5,872 acres

Restored prairie-and-wetland complex west of Marion; managed wetland units draw ducks and geese in migration.

Deer Creek Wildlife Area
Pickaway County · Zone C · 4,200 acres

Fields, woodlots and Deer Creek Lake shoreline southwest of Columbus — a Zone C option, so its season matches the city's.

The Columbus city reservoirs (Hoover, O'Shaughnessy, Griggs) and Alum Creek Lake have restricted or permit-only waterfowl hunting managed by the City of Columbus / USACE — verify current rules before hunting them.
